Queens of the Stone Age are currently out on their European tour. Prior to the band’s U.K. show at Eden Project earlier this week, frontman Josh Homme decided to get a haircut. The band’s manager reached out to a local barber named Sweeney, who works at Sea Dogs Barbers in nearby St. Austell. Sweeney, who thought it was a joke at first, ended up driving to the venue the next day to cut Homme’s hair, as well as QOTSA guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen and Jon Safley, bassist of opening act CRX. See the photo below.

The guys hit it off so well the Homme invited Sweeney out to dinner to watch the World Cup game between England and Colombia. Sweeney told local publication Cornwall Live, “Josh was really nice, like a lad you’d talk to in the pub really. I found him to be quite a wise bloke.”

He adds, “It was a very family-orientated atmosphere. Josh said he wanted his hair cut like his son and called him over, so I did it in the same mohawk sort of style. He called me ‘The Magician’ after I did it.”

After the haircuts, Sweeney joined the group at a pub and watched the World Cup match. Sweeney says, “We watched the England versus Colombia game with the band. They wanted to watch the whole thing, but their tour manager told them they couldn’t, they had to get on stage!” The band missed the thrilling end of the game, which saw England beat Colombia in penalty kicks.

Queens of the Stone Age will take the stage at the Main Square Festival in Arras, France tonight. See their tour dates here. England faces Sweden in World Cup action on Saturday.
