Kentucky Derby Winner ‘Rich Strike’ has an Oklahoma Owner!
By now you've probably heard the Cinderella story of Rich Strike the horse that won the 2022 148th Kentucky Derby. This past weekend we witnessed one of, if not the single biggest upsets in Derby history. Rich Strike had 80-01 odds and wasn't even supposed to run until another owner/trainer pulled their horse from the race.
It wasn't until Friday that Rich Strike was officially entered and qualified to race, now everyone knows the name. To say this was an upset is a massive understatement, this horse wasn't even supposed to run much less win the Kentucky Derby, but he did. No one could believe what they were seeing, see for yourself below.

This has to be one of the best Kentucky Derbys in history! A horse that no one had really ever heard of before and with little to no chance of winning took to the track and crossed the finish line first. It's amazing to see jockey and horse navigate through the pack and take the lead in the last possible second on the inside.
The owner of Rich Strike, Richard Dawson, is from Edmond, Oklahoma. He bought the horse late last year in September of 2021 for $30,000.00. It was Mr. Dawson's first time owning a racehorse and his first time at the Kentucky Derby, how cool is that? They won it in epic fashion! Rich Strike might not be the biggest or fastest, but he definitely has no quit in him and clearly demonstrated what heart can do on the track. I love this horse!
