In many towns across America, it's pretty commonplace for municipalities to choose alternate days for kids to trick or treat over the Halloween holiday. Lawton does this too, or has in recent years.

Many people say "You can't just choose a different night for Halloween to happen," and they're right. October 31st is sacred to the spirit of a child. One night where you're encouraged to get into a little trouble with fun pranks as long as you're not destroying property.

Some across the country have even lobbied Congress to make Halloween a national holiday and have it take place on the last Saturday of October. But in years like this, Halloween would fall on the 26th. A large majority of people feel that's too early, too.

This isn't the case in Lawton. We like our Halloween on Halloween, and that's when trick-or-treating happens, according to a local government that somehow feels it has a say in this.

Officially, Lawton's trick-or-treating is to happen between 6pm-9pm across town on Thursday, October 31st. It's going to be a ton of fun.
