Lawton YMCA Hosting Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic This Monday!
Coming up this Monday, April 19th (04-19-21) the Lawton Family YMCA located on the corner of 5th Street and Gore Blvd. at 5 S.W. 5th Street in downtown Lawton will be hosting a FREE COVID-19 vaccination clinic from 9:00am until 11:00am. No appointments or prior reservations are needed, it's a FREE walk in clinic to all those you are wanting to get vaccinated and everyone's welcome. The clinic will be set up inside the main gym at the YMCA which will allow plenty of space for patients, staff, equipment and for social distancing. If you're still needing to get vaccinated this Monday (04-19-21) could be your day at the Lawton Family YMCA!
Not too sure which vaccine, Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna that they'll be giving this Monday at the YMCA. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine has been paused by the FDA and CDC after it was discovered that some people were having a rare, but serious side effect or condition due to the vaccine. I just got my first shot this week of the Moderna vaccine at Sam's Club. It was super easy. I just walked in, showed an I.D, filled out a little paper work and received the shot all within 20-30 minutes. That includes the mandatory 15 minute wait so they can make sure you don't get a reaction to the shot. I'll go back next month for the second dose.
It wasn't bad at all. The only real side effect I experienced was a sore arm for a few days and that's about it. I know some people get sick or have other symptoms or side effects, I guess I just got lucky. Hopefully my second shot goes as smoothly and I don't have any issues. I do know a few people who have had some pretty bad side effects including running a fever, body aches, fatigue and just not feeling too good.
It's really up to you if you want to get vaccinated or not. I did, but I'll be traveling later this year and in order to fly I'm hearing you have to be vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test within the past 24 hours. I just wanted to make sure, I'm not taking any chances, not only with travel, but COVID-19 itself. There's continued rumors of "Vaccination Passports" as well. Some states, cities and businesses are pushing to require COVID-19 vaccinations for all persons who wish to travel, attend concerts, sporting events and in some cases even go to work. It's pretty scary and there are already states battling against it including Oklahoma.
To get the vaccine or not, that's the question, and one only you can answer that. There are pros and cons to both and in the end it's a personal choice. If you're wanting to get the shot and are looking for a place to go, make plans now to attend the free walk in clinic at the YMCA this Monday. See the poster below for details:
