This week's featured artist on Z94's 'Local Licks @ Six' from Oklahoma City, OK. the recently reunited, one and only Spooky Fruit! To say that I'm a little excited about the band getting back together is putting it mildly, this is one of those reunions that the fans hoped for, but never thought the day would come. I'm happy to report that day has finally arrived! Of course it's entirely possible that their recent regrouping could be a sign of the end times. A foreshadowing of an impending apocalyptic, cataclysmic event that could very well be the final chapter to humanity and the world as we know it. At least we'll have some kick ass tunes to welcome the end! For years we've speculated and talked about the possibilities of a Spooky Fruit reunion and now it's reality.

MEET THE MEMBERS OF SPOOKY FRUIT!

Spooky Fruit Is: Sean McGillicuddy-VOCALS / Curtis Fletcher-GUITAR / Marty Simon-GUITAR / Gabe Barham-BASS / Austin Barham-DRUMS

If you were fortunate enough to hang out at the Asylum Club back in the day, or attended Z94's 'Altered State' 3rd Birthday bash at the V.F.W all those years ago, you remember Spooky Fruit. It's been close to eight or ten years since we've last seen the band live in action, we've waited longer than that to get some new music. A few month's ago the news broke on Facebook that the band was back together, they've been touring and playing non-stop gigs, as well as writing new material ever since. Luckily for us we get to see them this Saturday night (10-20-12) at the Railhead with Point Loma and Deadweight! Not only that, IT'S TOTALLY FREE! That's right no cover charge to get in! You must be 21 to enter. Sorry kids, maybe next time!

For those who may be unfamiliar with the band, Spooky Fruit describe themselves as "Americano, Punk Rock Reggae- A- Billly Thrash". That's a pretty accurate description of what they do and how they sound. They're a  mixture of punk, metal, rockabilly and thrash that collides together in an unforgettable, unmistakable blend that's truly unique unto themselves. Most lovingly refer to it as beer chuggin' crack rock! Sure each member brings to the band a wide variety of influences, tastes and style, but in the end when the noise starts Spooky Fruit sounds like Spooky Fruit! Somehow they manage to take all these different genres and create a sound that will defy most labels.  An increasingly rare occurrence in this day of photocopied, pre-packaged bands that make up most of the musical landscape in an undistinguished mass of white noise. Here in S.W. Oklahoma we're blessed to have so many great local, area and regional artists who break up the madness and monotony!

SPOOKY FRUIT CAPTURED LIVE AT THE 'DIAMOND BALLROOM' IN OKC!

Earlier today (10-19-12) Sean McGillicuddy A.K.A. 'Maddog Thunderballs' the frontman of Spooky Fruit gave us a call to discuss all the recent happenings with the band. Due to their touring schedule and rehearsals they were unable to make the trip to Lawton and be in the studio, one good reason is that they'll be here tomorrow night (10-20-12) to perform at the Railhead! We got caught up on all things Fruit, from the recent reunion, all the live shows they've been doing and the breaking news that we'll soon get some fresh Fruit! They plan to release a new album early next year!

If you weren't tuned in, or logged on and listening live here's the complete interview PLUS all the tracks that were featured during the show. A '3fer Madness' from the band's 2001 release 'Straight Music For Lesbians'.
It's no secret that I'm a fan of this band, give them a listen and you will be too!
