Resolutions - The Oxford Dictionary defines resolution as a noun.  (1a: firm decision to do or not to do something:she kept her resolution not to see Anne any more, a New Year’s resolution.) It's the latter of the two that is coming into focus. With just over a week before New Year's Eve thousands of people, including myself, will go through a time honored ritual of making a resolution or two. I talked with several people over the last few days in order to find out what, if any, resolutions they're making this year.

The number one resolution that people said they will make is to lose weight. That is no surprise, in fact, this is the primary resolution worldwide. People always want to improve their health and it starts with losing weight.

Some people, though not many, said they still want to kick the bad habit of smoking. I encourage you, if you still light up, to find a hospital that offers smoking cessation courses. Maybe your company offers one. You can also call 1-800-QUIT-NOW. This is the best way you can achieve your smoking resolution. Also, if you can, or want to, team up with someone that also has the desire to quit. You both can hold each other accountable. As a former smoker I wish you the best of luck in reaching your goal.

The other resolutions offered up were quit swearing, drink less, and be a better person over all. There are some many avenues to go down as you make a resolution. Be careful though, do not set a goal that you think you can't achieve. If you want to lose weight - great - but if you don't see results as fast as you would like, don't give up, start slow. Remember, "Rome was not built in a day."

As for me, I have not yet decided whether I will make a resolution.  If you are going to make one I wish you the best of luck and success in keeping the resolution all through 2014.
