I think it's only human nature that most people eventually grow deaf to a message we hear constantly. Kind of like when you were a kid and your mom would fuss at you about whatever her pet peeve was, eventually you'd just tune it out... I'll admit, entering my seventeenth year in the media, I've grown deaf to the big holiday anti-drunk driving messages.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think they're a waste of time or anything, I don't... it's just making the same PSA's year after year for Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and New Year eventually wears off that new-car smell. That being said, it's hard not to notice the huge milestone the state and those PSA's have achieved in 2022...

If you're keeping track, this makes three years in a row that OHP hasn't had to work a fatality accident on New Year's Eve thanks to the lamest idiots in society that swear they're "really good at driving drunk."

It's even bigger news when you consider that in December of 2019, Oklahoma was classified in a study as the second most deadly state to travel during that time between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

I'm sure most people want to give credit to the pandemic for a lot of this good news, but if you haven't opened your eyes in the last six months, Oklahoma has been living as if there weren't an ever-evolving Wu-Flu out there.

This milestone is partly due to the constant efforts of our safety professionals out there drilling a message of responsibility into the minds of Oklahomans, and probably a bit of luck on the side of the losers that stupidly decided to tempt fate and drive drunk anyway.
