While Nikki Sixx is known best as the bassist of Motley Crue and frontman for Sixx: AM, his talents range far beyond music. Sixx has a love for photography, and has announced his upcoming first-ever photo exhibit, Conversations with Angels to take place at the Leica Gallery Los Angeles, running from Oct. 4 through Nov. 5.

Sixx's street-style photography is concerned with telling stories both in regards to himself and the people he meets. He looks to capture stories of hope and perseverance through his photos. His method includes having a conversation with his subject, and getting to know the person and their story as best possible, before ever thinking to pull the camera out. It helps him to create a bond of trust, and then capture them in a real moment. His love for Leica starts from his process, using the Leica SL, Leica M and his Leica Q.

"I never leave home without my camera," Sixx says. "I want it nearby in case I see something that compels me to pull my car over, or walk down an alleyway for inspiration. I love the Q because it’s incredibly durable and has stuck with me through everything – a lot of wear and tear, but it always delivers sharp and poignant images.”

Of the project, he says, “I’ve been a storyteller all my life - as a lyricist, an author and especially as a photographer. When I’m shooting my subjects, I’m looking to capture more than just an image. I want to tell their stories."

In addition to the photography show, Sixx will also be releasing his own custom model of the Leica Q, featuring a black snakeskin finish on leatherette with a laser-engraved Nikki Sixx signature. It also comes with a black Leica leather wrist strap, an autographed copy of the 10th anniversary edition of Sixx’s memoir, The Heroin Diaries and a black DSPTCH braided shoulder strap. The camera will retail at $5250, be limited to only 28 units. Customers can pre-order at Leica boutiques in the US.

It'll be exciting to see, and isn't his only artistic endeavor for the year. Sixx is also set to re-release The Heroin Diaries as a graphic novel.
