Major Lazer is the dancehall-infused side project of Philadelphia-based producer and DJ Diplo, while No Doubt, of course, are the West Coast alt-rock band with a tendency to branch out into punk, ska, New Wave, reggae and, yes, even dancehall. Put the two together and what do you get? How about the Major Lazer remix of ‘Settle Down,’ the lead single off No Doubt’s first album in more than a decade.

With its New Wave pop sound matching a Jamaican street vibe and reggae beat, ‘Settle Down’ is primed for some Major Lazer remixing — and he nails it, transforming the tune into a club-ready dubstep beatdown.

Last summer, No Doubt posted a Twitpic of the band hanging in the studio with Major Lazer’s Diplo and Switch (Switch has since left, leaving Diplo as the sole Lazer member). At the time, the two were turning in production work on the band’s comeback album, ‘Push and Shove,’ and its title track. Obviously, that went well, and Lazer was recruited for more work.

We kind of dig what Lazer did on ‘Settle Down,’ with all of its crazy synths and chopped-and-screwed beats — what do you think of it?
