Civil forfeiture has long been a very touchy subject. On one hand, when someone commits a crime, and they're convicted, 99% of people are cool with the state keeping their things to sell off for future crime-fighting funds. On the other, when a person is found innocent, their belongings aren't always returned, having been seized by officials. That's where the line of a well-meaning program blurs.

Nowadays, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has been outfitted with specialized card readers specifically for forcing instant civil forfeiture. Meaning, if you're suspected of a crime, they can whip out this little digital box, force you to swipe your debit and gift cards, and your money is long gone without due process. That's a huge issue. Legalized highway robbery.

The real shocker here is, Oklahoma isn't known for such ridiculously 'police state' harboring ideas and policy... But then again, times are changing. I'd almost insist to see oversight at the highest levels in the state government, but we're all still sitting around wondering where all that lottery money for the schools walked off to.
