Kids Get In Free At This Cowboy Festival In Oklahoma City
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live as a cowboy for a day? Not a Hollywood cowboy where you're twirling a rope and wearing a pastel fringe button-up, but actually embodying the real-world life-cycle of a Wild West cowboy? Good news, you get to at least eat like one at the Chuck Wagon Festival in OKC.
Every year the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum invites the country's best chuck wagoneers for a weekend of food, family fun, and history.
Of course, food is up front. You can sample some of the best eats from around the west, but there's more to the festival than delicious biscuits and beans. It's a great way to learn about how our world was once upon a time.
Some of the activities include bandana design, leather stamping, rope making, watercolor arts, archery, storytelling, and even sarsaparilla sampling. It's quite a unique taste.
There will also be a ton of demonstrations by artists from around the country. Sculptors, painters, weavers, leather workers, and more. You can even get a crash course in how to make a traditional arrowhead out of stone.
What would a festival be without live music? It'll be happening on two stages the entire weekend alongside cowboy poets and storytellers, cooking shows, and more.
It'll be a great way to let the kids have a blast while also learning about completely different cultures, lifestyles, and history.
It all happens at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in OKC on May 23rd and 24th. Tickets are $25 per person, kids 12 and under get in for free.
