A Cold Reality Check Could Be Coming for Oklahoma Weather
Oklahoma has been getting away with something this winter, and we all know it.
A few cold mornings here and there, sure, but I don't know if you could ask for a better Oklahoma winter. These warm days have a lot of us still mobbing around town in shorts.
Right on time, cue Oklahoma's wild and unpredictable weather.
Winter Is Coming
There’s some chatter in the long-range models about a true arctic blast sliding south later this month. We’re talking January 23 through the 26 window right now.
Below-freezing daily highs, super-cold temps overnight. That impending feeling of doom in regards to your utility bills...
Not to add fuel to the fire, but there’s also a possibility of snow or ice coming with it.
Gotta Get The Bread And Milk
Chill for a second, this isn’t THE forecast just yet. It’s just one of the possible futures that could come next weekend.
Long-range weather is more "Could Happen" rather than "Will Happen." More suggestion than promise, especially in Oklahoma. There's a good chance this will shift away from us.
Still, any prediction of moisture in any form - rain, snow, sleet - is a welcome one at the moment. The state is dry. Really dry. Winter winds have already kicked wildfire season into gear, which is not something you want to be saying before February even starts. Grass fires don’t care how mild the winter has been, and neither do burn bans.
So yeah, nobody is asking for an ice storm. But a little cold and some moisture could do more good than harm in the long run.
