Here we go, Arctic Blast round two.

Just as Oklahoma starts to thaw out from the last blast of arctic air, another one is lining up for this weekend.

Different Setup, Similar Results.

Very cold temperatures again, two weekends in a row, and just enough uncertainty with snow to keep everyone constantly checking updates.

The cold part is the easy forecast. That’s locked in. Temperatures are going to plunge statewide, especially overnight. Northeastern Oklahoma is once again looking like the cold spot, with lows dropping well below what most of us consider reasonable. Northern and Central Oklahoma won’t be far behind. Southwest Oklahoma will feel it too, but it looks far better down this way.

Snow Chances

Snow is the wildcard. Some models show light snow for parts of northern and northeastern Oklahoma. Others shift it east, or weaken it altogether. Each update nudges the map around a little, which is why it feels like the chance keeps jumping all over the place. At this point, it may happen. It may not. That’s not hedging, that’s just how these systems behave until they’re almost on top of us.

What matters more is the timing. The cold arrives first. Any moisture that shows up after that sticks around longer. Roads refreeze faster. Mornings get slick even if nothing new falls from the sky. That’s the part people tend to underestimate once the snow headlines calm down.

The Silver Lining

The good news is that this one moves fast. After the weekend, temperatures rebound back into a more normal Oklahoma winter range for most of the state. Think 40s and 50s, which will feel downright comfortable after what we’ve had. Melting will happen quickly, and life will feel normal again.

So this isn’t a panic situation. It’s a patience one. Another stretch of bitter cold, another round of watching forecasts, and then a return to something familiar. Please don't buy up all the bread this time around.
