Oklahoma’s Hope for a Bedlam Bowl Game is Out the Window
When Sooner State sports fans all shared in the misery of losing Oklahoma's famous OU/OSU Bedlam series, the talk became one of almost even more importance.
We lost the odds for future regular season contests when OU opted to become the SECs new punching bag, but bowl season can see any sort of matchup the experts want.
While both teams started the season looking stronger than expected, it has completely fallen off the rails in the most poetically ironic way possible. It's as if OU and OSU are nothing without each other.
The Bedlam Bowl Bet
While many considered the House Divided Game series had come to an early end, as we progressed through the season, loss after loss, it seemed like OU and OSU were destined to be pushed back together in the post-season...
As the L's stacked up, odds for something like the Alamo Bowl started looking more like a much smaller, nearly nameless contest akin to something like the Laughing Clown Malt Liquor Bowl, but there isn't hope for a 2024 Bedlam series anymore.
Bowl Eligibility
In order to qualify for a bowl game, NCAA football teams must have a 50/50 win/lose record. Teams play twelve games during the regular season, it takes a minimum of six wins to qualify.
Oklahoma State Cowboys are having a bad season. While it started out strong with a lucky win against Arkansas, Mike Gundy hasn't pulled off a win since.
Currently 3-7 and best case scenario to finish this season 4-8.
OU Sooners are also having a bad season - or the "worst season ever" if you ask the fanbase. Even though they've shown good, hard-fought wins against nobody-opponents, the SEC has not been kind to them this year.
Currently 5-5 headed into games with Alabama and LSU. Even the biggest OU fans are expecting a 5-7 finish to the season... but if 2024 has taught football fans anything, it's that almost anything can happen.
A Bedlam Bowl will have to wait for another year. Hopefully under ideal 12-0/12-0 conditions.
