Oklahoma may be known for cowboy culture, Native American history, and oil & gas production, but I wouldn't have pegged it as a rude place amongst the states.

Business Insider recently released an article about America's rudest cities. They based the whole list on a poll that went out to the residents of America, and it's super surprising to see OKC on that list.

According to the study...

The rankings were based on two web polls where adult Americans were asked to rate the rudeness of the nation's largest cities.

Not a shocker, New York City overwhelmingly ranked as the rudest city in the country. To be fair, that has always been NYC's reputation. On the other hand, when a coworker returned from a vacation to The Big Apple, he said people were overwhelmingly polite when they asked the typical tourist questions.

The same coworker said almost the exact same thing about Los Angeles too, yet the Concrete Jungle made a second-place finish on the rude list too.

Why is OKC considered rude?

According to the polls, of everyone who responded, 2.3% of all respondents picked OKC as the rudest metro area in America.

The OKC emergency services were in a bit of an uproar at the time over their dispatchers' reputation for being short, curt, and rude, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Overall, while I wouldn't say I've never had rude encounters in our state's capital city before, they sure haven't happened very often. Then again, like most travelers, I typically spend my time there in the places where other travelers are congregating... so that viewpoint could be a little skewed.
