Oklahoma Dept of Wildlife To Host Trap Classes in 2023

If you're an Oklahoma outdoorsman that wants to extend your outdoor hunting season, or if you've ever wanted to learn how to trap, the OK Wildlife Department will be hosting workshops across the state in 2023.

What is there to trap in Oklahoma? Glad you asked.

Coyotes, raccoons, and bobcats are pretty high on the active trapping lists, but there are a shocking amount of species that fall into this category if you live in the right parts of the state.

Badgers, gray and red foxes, mink, muskrats, opossums, weasels, skunk, nutria, beaver, and river otters.

That's a lot of pelts to snag throughout the year.

While the most common furbearing animals are legal to trap year-round, most others have protected and specified seasons, mainly during the winter before they need to raise offspring.

As you could imagine, there are quite a few basic rules and regulations that go along with trapping. Things like trap identification, the required daily maintenance, licensing and such, but also key things to note about trade and the selling of pelts.
