If you've stepped outside in Oklahoma over the last week, you probably did a double-take. After last night's rain, walking out of the house this morning was downright chilly, which is very strange for this time of year.

For a stretch of late July into early August, Oklahoma has been beyond pleasant. Not just tolerable, actually nice.

And let’s be honest, after the relentless triple digits we started summer with, this has felt like a weather miracle. People have been walking their dogs in the middle of the day again. Kids have been playing outside. You can mow your yard without the risk of spontaneous combustion.

But, because this is Oklahoma, you knew it wasn't going to last.

Forecast models are showing another big heat ridge setting up across the central U.S., and yep, we’re in the bullseye.

Starting this weekend, highs will creep back into the mid to upper 90s, with triple digits expected by early next week.

Humidity? Also making a comeback. The kind that makes your steering wheel feel like a stovetop and your clothes stick to you by the time you get from the door to the mailbox.

So if you haven’t taken advantage of this rare August breather, now’s your chance. Go to the lake. Grill dinner without sweating into the potato salad. Sit outside and just exist like a normal human before the heat returns and turns us all back into indoor creatures waiting on fall.

Because in Oklahoma, nice weather is never a promise... It’s a brief, glorious glitch in the Matrix.
