The Classic Lemonade Stand Is Making a Comeback Across Oklahoma
Even though summer hasn't officially started across Oklahoma, the weather is feeling close enough. Plus, some of the summer staples are starting to show.
Warm lakes, green everything, and even a handful of childhood lemonade stands are popping up here and there.
The Lemonade Stand Revival
As a 90s kid who was raised by a super-crafty mom, the homemade lemonade stands hit a special place in the nostalgic heart. What's more awesome than that? In a time when most kids are tied to their devices and 99% indoor time, to be sitting out curbside offering up cheap cold drinks is a trend worth supporting in your own neighborhood.
A few weeks ago, at the Apache Rattlesnake Festival, there were a couple of kids making lemonade that was way beyond what you'd expect in small-town Oklahoma.
You expect the powdered mix kind with an absurd amount of sugar, but these couple of kids were cutting up fresh lemons, squeezing them in a cup with cold water and just a pinch of sugar. It was tart, sour, and sweet all at the same time.
Of course, it wasn't $1 per cup either, but the premium was worth the work they put into those big cups of lemonade.
Since then, both in my own neighborhood and across the local Facebook pages, I've seen that lemonade stands are starting to appear all across SWOK. I'm guessing they're popping up in your neck of the woods too.
If you see one, if you can, stop in and support the few kids of their generation who are willing to put time and energy into something constructive in our shared world. They'll appreciate it too.
