Oklahoma Water Parks Worth The Drive This Summer
As Memorial Day weekend starts creeping closer and the Oklahoma spring makes an abrupt exit as summer kicks off, the annual question shows up right on schedule.
How are we kicking off the summer break this year?
At some point, every family lands on the same answer.
Water parks.
You can almost smell the sunscreen and chlorine on wet towels that never seem to fully dry. You start craving that crappy concession stand pizza and questionable hot dogs. Summer break officially begins the moment someone says, “Grab your swimsuit.”
Most people immediately think of OKANA Water Park in Oklahoma, and honestly, that makes sense. It is the big, shiny, headline-grabbing option right now. But the truth is, it is far from the only place in the state where you can spend a day floating, sliding, and trying to convince your kids to take just one break from the water.
The nice thing about Oklahoma’s water park lineup is how different the options are depending on your crew.
Big or small, we have them all.
If you'd like to find a smaller water park oriented for the littles, you can. They're pretty much all over the state.
On the flip side, if your kids have officially graduated into thrill-seeker mode, there are parks that absolutely deliver. Taller slides, bigger drops, longer lazy rivers. If the goal is to wear them out completely before the drive home, Oklahoma has options for that too.
Then there is the wildcard category that a lot of parents quietly appreciate. Water parks that double as mini getaways. Resorts, casinos, indoor-outdoor combos, places where the kids crash early, and the adults get a second shift of vacation after dark.
It is not a bad system.
You might have to drive a little farther to find what fits, but we have them all in the Sooner State. Here's the list of the standouts.
