It's always fun to find out where your friends and coworkers are traveling to during the holidays. Living in a small Oklahoma military town, there is no telling where everyone is actually from.

For instance, in my small clique of buddies, only one of them is from Oklahoma, born and raised in Lawton. The rest of us are from all four corners of the country. California, Louisiana, Texas, New York, Minnesota, and Idaho. We really are a motley crew.

Naturally, when it comes time for the big family holidays, we're all off to our own little corners of the world - for better or worse. Christmas in South Louisiana is often very warm, and I can't even fathom a holiday covered in NY or Idahoan snow.

As we grow older, it's becoming more and more common for the burgeoning families in the group to opt for their own new holiday traditions. Cruising to Cancun for the holidays or jet-setting to the Caribbean for New Year's... One can only imagine what that is like, but there are several travel advisories this year. Mainly, locations Americans shouldn't visit.

As expected, more than a few familiar countries on this list, but some surprises too.
