OSU Wrestling Makes NCAA History In 2026 Championships
Oklahoma State wrestling just did something that has literally never happened before.
At the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships, the Oklahoma State Cowboys wrestling crowned three true freshmen as national champions.
Same tournament. Same weekend. Same orange singlets.
That’s not “rare.” That’s a record.
College wrestling is one of the toughest sports to win immediately. Most guys redshirt. They grow into it. They bulk up, adjust to college competition, and maybe make a run later in their career.
OSU skipped the waiting period.
True freshmen Jax Forrest, Sergio Vega, and Landon Robideau all walked straight into the NCAA Championships and won the whole thing. That has never happened in NCAA wrestling history.
Now, yes, the Cowboys finished second as a team behind Penn State Nittany Lions wrestling, which has basically become the only other program giving OSU wrestling competition, but this story is bigger than the team trophy.
This is a glimpse into OSU's future.
Because freshmen champions don’t stay freshmen.
And if you know anything about Oklahoma State wrestling, you know the sport basically runs through Stillwater. There’s a reason the National Wrestling Hall of Fame sits right there in town. This program has been setting the standard for decades, being the major contributor to OK State's national championship titles - sixth most in D1 NCAA sports - even more than our little brother, the Sooners.
This year's tournament just added a brand new chapter in that rich history.
Three freshmen. Three national titles. One NCAA record.
It's crazy to think these boys are just getting started on what will likely be a huge collegiate wrestling careers.
