Rain, Ice, and Snow Are Lining Up for Oklahoma
Winter’s been strange in Oklahoma this year. A cold morning here, a warm afternoon there. Hoodie weather at breakfast, shorts by lunch. Take this past weekend for example, really chilly overnight, warm enough by afternoon. It's like winter has forgotten about Oklahoma, but that may be changing next weekend, because the forecast is lining up that big change we talked about earlier.
Rain, Ice, & Snow
The Arctic is about to blast across Oklahoma. Almost every weather model points to it, but they don't all agree. Right now things point to rain first, then a turn toward ice as temperatures plunge, and snow to settle in on top.
All of that is showing up in the models... What they don't agree on is timing.
Some models point at late Thursday as a starting point. Most others lean on Friday, and the others early next Saturday.
Why Timing Matters
Rain at thirty-five degrees is just rain. Rain at thirty-one degrees becomes freezing rain, but if the cold air arrives fast enough, snow will be the star of the show instead of ice... But the models fairly point at all three throughout the start of the weekend. Rain turning to ice, turning to snow, and it's stacking up to be a statewide North, South, East, West thing.
Best case scenario, and one we're all familiar with, the meteorologists get the precipitation wrong, and it turns into a back-to-back freezing cold weekend. It's shaping up to be even colder than what we just had. Plunging overnight lows in the single digits and teens, but backed by daily highs in the low to mid twenties.
It’s still early, our weather predictors hardly know what will happen this afternoon, let alone five days from now, but this is looking pretty solid. The prediction pattern is stacking up in the forecast now. We'll take the moisture and survive the cold. Hope you have your bread and milk.
@wxwithpeyton A Winter Storm To End January? Yes that’s what I said and I’m aware it’s a big statement ❄️ Overnight models have turned to an agreement over a winter storm in the South next weekend. Snow, ice, freezing rain, and rain. MANY UNKNOWNS still within the forecast so keep updated over the next few days. #snow #winterstorm #oklahoma #texas #winter ♬ original sound - peyton⚡️
