The Red Hot Chili Peppersvault-clearing campaign, which started earlier this month with the release of the ‘Strange Man’/'Long Progression’ single, is continuing according to plan.

The next two songs in line for release, ‘Magpies on Fire’ and ‘Victorian Machinery,’ are scheduled to arrive in stores on Sept. 11, but thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can hear both of them now — we’ve embedded them below. (We recommend playing them right away, before they’re taken down.)

As they did last time around, the band highlights two sides of their sound with the new single; ‘Magpies’ finds the band in mid-tempo mode, riding a breezy melody and rolling groove through an acoustic guitar-dominated arrangement, while ‘Machinery’ boasts a darker, harder-driving vibe. The next two songs in the series, ‘Never Is a Long Time’ and ‘Love Of Your Life,’ are scheduled to be released on Oct. 2.

In the NME‘s report, drummer Chad Smith is quoted as saying that the Chili Peppers have even more material waiting to be turned into proper songs, thanks to the jam sessions the band arranged to keep themselves busy while singer Anthony Kiedis recovered from foot surgery earlier this year. “We’re just always trying to come up with new stuff,” explained Smith. “Usually the latest and greatest is what we use, but you never know. If there’s something that’s really good or if Anthony’s really connected to any of them, that sometimes has something to do with it, so we’ll see.”
