The South’s Best Renaissance Fair is Going on Now in Oklahoma
I don't remember how old we were, but my cousin and I made a pact in the 1990s to recreate the movie-magic moment from Cable Guy where they go to dinner at Medieval Times.
Like most childhood dreams, it was forgotten until we sat down for a meal of nachos at Ted's a few days ago. He took his family to Medieval Times in Dallas and they had a blast. They didn't get the blue knight, but he said it was fun all the same.
Then we started talking about the Renaissance Fair that happens in Muskogee each year.
As it turns out, it's going on each weekend right now, complete with full-contact jousting and other intense and incredible activities.
The Ren-Fair at Castle Muskogee is an event that takes weeks to complete. Operating on the weekend from late April through the first weekend in June this year, each weekend has a different theme, different characters, attractions, etc... and the overwhelming majority of people recommend it as one of the best in the country if not the best in the Southern United States.
Almost everything I've read about it on social media is gleaming with positive vibes, other than a handful of people that discovered it just wasn't their thing... but you won't know until you try, right?
The Renaissance Fair at the Castle of Muskogee will be going on each Saturday and Sunday through June 4th, but also on Memorial Day Monday for the three-day weekend.
Tickets are relatively cheap at +/-$25 and the kids will have a blast. Gates open daily at 10:30 AM and the festivities wrap up at 6 PM each evening. If you're the type that complains that there's never anything to do in Oklahoma, it's a personal problem. The rest of us have events like this.
