Rocklahoma is almost here.

Thousands of people will make the trip to Pryor over Labor Day weekend for one of the biggest rock festivals in the country.

But here's a piece of Oklahoma rock history you've probably never hear...

Rocklahoma was a thing long before Rocklahoma.

Same/Same, But Different

They spelled it "Roklahoma," and it would have been THE show of all shows to catch.

On September 6, 1980, OU's Memorial Stadium became the home to a one-day rock festival with an absolutely ridiculous lineup.

Pat Benatar
Sammy Hagar
The Doobie Brothers

That's quite literally an impossible lineup today, but the story gets even crazier.

Van Halen wasn't even headlining the show... And fans let everybody know it. When VH finished their set, half the crowd headed for the exits instead of sticking around for the Doobie Brothers.

Can you imagine having to close for Eddie Van Halen in 1980?

Most Oklahoma rock fans have probably never heard of this concert. Mention the early days of Rocklahoma and almost everybody immediately thinks of hair metal bands like Poison from those early years in Pryor.

That's fair.

But buried in the history books is another Roklahoma that brought one of the most stacked lineups Oklahoma has ever seen.
