Run To Remember On April 29 & 30 In Oklahoma City
One of the most infamous events in Oklahoma history was the bombing of the Murrah Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. This year marks the 28th anniversary of this tragedy that resulted in the loss of 168 souls, including 19 children.
Today, those lives lost are memorialized at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, which is located at the site of that horrific day nearly three decades ago. In 2001, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon was started as a fundraiser for the museum and has since grown from 5,000 participants to 25,000 runners and walkers from around the world, according to the marathon's website.

The OKC Memorial Marathon has been dubbed as 'The Run to Remember.'
According to the marathon's website, the OKC Memorial Marathon has been named as one of the "must run marathons" by Runner's World magazine and is also an official Boston qualifying race. There are six events runners can participate in:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 5K
- 5-Person Relay
- Kids Marathon
- Senior Marathon
All proceeds from the marathon go to benefit the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum so that we can continue to remember those lives lost on that tragic day. Here's what the marathon's website says the meaning is behind "The Run to Remember:"
The Run to Remember brings together runners and spectators from around the world to honor those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Each race begins with 168 seconds of silence in honor of those who were killed. Along the course, runners pass by 168 banners, each representing the name of one of the bombing victims.
If you're interested in participating in the 2023 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon on April 29, check out the marathon's website. Or if you've never visited the Oklahoma National Memorial Museum, I encourage you to pay a visit.
