Safe Hunting Course Available in Walters
Wildlife officials in Oklahoma state that hunter education classes have reduced the numbers of hunting-related accidents in the state. And this Saturday in Walters, the Okahoma Department of Wildlife is offering the first of a series of free hunting classes across the state, aimed at further reducing accidents in the future.
It's hunting season and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife wants to make sure people are safe while hunting, which is why they’re offering free hunter education classes all over the state. Officials indicate that the numbers of accidents and fatalities have decreased as much as 70% in the past 40 years. The class is offered to all ages, and is a required course for hunters under 30.
The first class will cover a variety of topics, such as gun safety, tree stand safety and hunter responsibility, and teaches both kids and adults everything related to safe hunting. The free course, which will run the whole day, will get underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14th at the Cotton County Expo Building in Walters. Children must be 10-years-old to take the test, but kids under 10 years can still attend.
