Surviving Members of Soundgarden Want to Work Together Again

Over the weekend, the surviving members of Soundgarden attended the unveiling of a Chris Cornell statue in Seattle, a tribute to the late singer who died by suicide while the band was on tour in May 2017. While guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron have been dealing with their personal grief, talk has turned to what the future holds for the musicians.

“We’re just still taking our time and giving ourselves space to process everything,” Cameron tells Rolling Stone. “We would certainly love to try to continue to do something, figure out something to do together.”

“On a personal level,” Shepherd adds, “We haven’t even gotten a chance to hang out, just us three, yet. We’re going through natural healing, then thinking about the natural next step.”

Earlier this year, Thayil began touring with MC50, celebrating the legacy of legendary Detroit punk outfit MC5 as they mark their 50th anniversary year. Cameron joined the group in June at a couple of festival appearances in Europe. Shepherd, for the most part, has been staying out of the spotlight.

Following the unveiling of the statue at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture, footage of a special Soundgarden performance at The Wiltern, captured by the Artist Den, was screened inside MoPOP’s Sky Church. For those who couldn't get into the sold-out showing, the film will be screened at MoPOP’s JBL Theater tonight (Oct. 9), free with admission to the museum.
