First let me say, don't shoot the messenger. I didn't call this the ugliest town in Oklahoma, I'm just letting you know what's being said and reported. After all, I actually live in this city. I will say there is some truth to this, as much as that hurts to say. My hometown certainly isn't going to win any beauty contests any day soon.

So what town was named the ugliest city in the state? That would be Lawton, OK. According to an article written by travel.alot.com Lawton is the winner of this unflattering award. The article lists the ugliest cities in each state. You can click here to read the article and see which cities joined Lawton as the ugliest.

This may be a hard pill to swallow especially if like myself you live in Lawton, OK. Sadly if we're completely honest with ourselves we have to admit our city looks pretty rough. Imagine it's your first time visiting our city what would you think? I bet the vehicle windows would go up and the doors would be locked ASAP.

Every entry into Lawton looks ghetto and run down. This is the first impression people get of our town and I hate to say it, it's not good, at all. I mean if we're being honest it looks like a garage sale happening in a post-apocalyptic ghost town and that's putting it nicely. At first glance, Lawton doesn't look like a friendly place.

I don't enjoy bashing our city. I'm not one of those people who speak endlessly about how bad Lawton is, I love this town. I do however want what's best for our city and for us to improve. The only way to do that is by being completely honest with our appraisal and admitting there are some things that need attention.

We are making progress and over the past couple of years, Lawton has been growing and improving. We've seen a lot of positive changes in our community and greater opportunities. But despite all this Lawton still has a bad reputation for crime, drugs, quality of life, income potential, and overall safety and health.

Visitors often remark about the number of abandoned buildings and businesses in Lawton

Perception is reality and if people think the worst of Lawton and believe the negative things people say about us, real or not, it's something we need to address and work on. Easy to say, but difficult to do. Our city leaders and government are aware of this and have been tirelessly working on improving Lawton's reputation.

We can all do our part to help beautify Lawton and make it a better and even prettier place to live and visit. While it sucks to be listed or named the ugliest city in Oklahoma we can use this as motivation to make the improvements I think we all agree are needed. We might be considered ugly, but we have a great personality.
