Every year around this time, you start seeing the signs pop up, literally. “Veterans Eat Free.” “Free Coffee for Service Members.” “Thank You for Your Service.”

It’s Veterans Day in Oklahoma, and just about every restaurant you can think of has something special going on. From the big chains to the mom-and-pop diners, today is one of the few days of the year when the whole state seems to agree on one thing: a free meal for our veterans is the least we can do.

Looking at the list, you’ll see everything from free breakfast platters to burgers and desserts, depending on where you go. Some spots keep it simple while others go all out with full meals.

And yeah, maybe it’s partly marketing. But most folks will tell you it still means something. You can see it in the line of veterans waiting outside early, trading stories and laughs before the doors even open. There’s an unspoken kind of camaraderie in the air that money can’t buy.

If Oklahoma Was A Candle, What Would It Smell Like?

I think it's fair to say that each place you can visit has a distinctive smell. That being said, I don't think you can just easily cram Oklahoma into just one candle. There are so many different places that are diverse and unique. It's a loaded question beyond what most people can answer.
