Walgreens Announces Closures of Oklahoma Stores
For decades now, there has been a pharmacy battle happening across America. Walgreens - vs - CVS - vs - Rite-Aid.
We've all watched as the rivalry reached a fever pitch with the competitors literally building locations across the street from each other, in some of the smallest towns imaginable. It never seemed to make sense, but it's all coming to a head.
CVS has been closing stores for about six years now, reorganizing to save the company. Rite-Aid recently filed bankruptcy after shutting doors on 500 locations, and now it seems Walgreens is following suit.
Walgreens just announced they're closing 1900 locations across America, and if you've shopped there - you probably understand why. Their pricing of products was far beyond competitors like Walmart, Target, and a swarm of online retailers and pharmacies that offer quick service with lower prices.
Oklahoma locations that are closing.
In OKC:
- 6000 S Pennsylvania Ave
- 9011 S Pennsylvania Ave
- 4400 NW 23rd Street
And one additional location at 6505 E 71st Street in Tulsa.
Some of these locations are already closed, others are still planned for the rest of the year. Just as more Walgreens have closed in Oklahoma prior to this, more are expected to close in 2025 as the pharmacy giant tries to find a new place in the pecking order of consumers.
