We Taste-Tested Chick-Fil-A VS Popeyes Chicken Sandwiches
TLDR: Chick-Fil-A overwhelmingly takes this victory... Lets take it from the top.
Apparently, there's a chicken sandwich war being fought across the United States between the two giants of fried chicken... Chick-Fil-A and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. Understandable, both joints really know their way around the tastiest fowl on the planet. Since Critter and I are both fans of chicken sandwiches and free food, we decided to investigate and declare an outright winner.
I know what you're thinking, with Popeyes and CFA so far apart down Cache Road, one or the other would be a soggy cooled mess by the time we chowed down, which would skew the results... but that's not the case. We used the CFA app to carefully time out pick up so all of the chicken sandwich participants would be as good as they could be.
When we arrived at Popeyes at noon, there were already a few cars ahead of us in line. This worked out great as we used that moment to order our CFA sandwiches through the app. Before you knew it, the line was almost empty. As if everyone suddenly left on cue. We just figured we were having good luck. As it turned out, Popeyes somehow "ran out" of chicken sandwiches...
What kind of chicken joint runs out of chicken?!?
Did Popeyes not realize people eat food almost every day?
It's a new menu item surrounded by buzz, why is it not overstocked at every location?
The questions can go on for a good couple of pages here, but at the core of it, "How does a chicken joint run out of chicken?" remains the top question.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Popeyes spicy chicken. It's the only fried chicken I actually crave. Granted, I usually only eat it when they're running a $5 meal deal... because paying over ten bucks for a three-piece and side is ridiculous... but how in the world did they run out of chicken sandwiches on a random Tuesday before the lunch rush? You can literally hear Donald Trump quietly saying "Sad" under his breath over this.
Luckily, all was not lost. Even though they tried, Popeyes didn't ruin our lunch. We still had a piping fresh Chick-Fil-A order to pick up. But since we're supposed to be doing a taste test of chicken sandwiches, we decided to pit CFA's Original Chicken Sandwich against their amazing Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
The winner in that bout? Us. We got to chow down on two free chicken sandwiches. I prefer the spicy, Critter prefers the original, but with added hot sauce.
I know... That's for another time and place.
Chick-Fil-A wins... Long live the king.
If you've managed to catch Popeyes on a day where they had enough food to let you order a chicken sandwich, how was it? Let me know.
