We’re Slowly Getting Back To Normal
I don't know about you, but it feels like we've turned a page in the story of today this week. A record setting winter weather storm that placed the Great Plains as the coldest spot on earth for a few days, tons and tons of snow that not only blew sideways for a day, it fell fluffy and pretty for a day too. I haven't looked around to see just how much snow we actually received, but judging by the snow atop my grill, it was a lot. Probably not the 15-20 inches forecast early last week, but close enough.
I was sitting at home yesterday afternoon and couldn't help but notice the familiar sound of a tractor outside. I peeked out the window, was instantly blinded by the sun beating down on the snow, put on some glasses, and to my surprise, there was a City of Lawton backhoe clearing the road in front of my house. I live on a really busy, constantly traveled bit of road, and as much as I complain about the traffic, I'm kind of thankful for it at the moment. My truck may still be buried in a massive snowdrift that goes up one side, across the top, and down the other, but when it melts off, I'll have a clear road to drive back to normalcy.
The story of us getting back to normal might extend even beyond this week of weird weather. If you haven't seen, covid cases are on the decline. I don't know how much of that is the weather, but it's a national trend. Does this mean life as we knew it a year ago is finally start to come back? It's too early to tell. I'm convinced the trends of the last calendar year will likely continue on through the summer into fall. We'd be lucky to be back to normal by christmas. Odds are, they're still eating bats and making lab-grown pandemics in China.
Really, you just have to look at each day going forward as a step towards the life we used to know. We're all worried for each other during times like these. If you haven't checked on your neighbors yet, you should. It's the right thing to do. Besides, you'll want to get that good deed in before we all go back to letting politicians divide us. Their smoke and mirrors are bound to re-enter everyday life any moment now. Do yourself and everyone you know a favor before then, swear off politics and stop sharing others peoples opinions as your own on facebook. After all, you can't talk with anyone while you're talking at them.
