Oklahoma’s $2 Billion Theme Park Project Is Dead

A few years ago, Oklahoma was about to get something we’ve never really had before.

A giant theme park.

Not a roadside attraction. Not a water park. Not a place where you feed a giraffe and call it a day.

A full-blown, $2 billion theme park.

When American Heartland was announced, it felt like one of those “wait... Oklahoma is getting WHAT?” moments.

The plan was massive. A 1,000-acre entertainment destination near Vinita along Route 66. Six themed areas. Hotels. Restaurants. RV camping. Basically, a mini vacation universe planted right here in the Sooner State.

And for a little while, it was easy to picture it... Then reality showed up.

The project has officially fizzled out.

The land that was supposed to become Oklahoma’s answer to Disneyland is no longer moving forward, and the massive vision that had people dreaming big appears to be parked permanently.

As far as I can find online, the developers, investors, and contractors are all wrapped up in lawsuits against each other.

So disappointing.

Oklahoma has never been short on weird, wonderful, and completely unique attractions. We have a giant blue whale. We have buffalo roaming mountains. We have the only known giant leg lamp... A giant theme park along Route 66 would have fit right in.

Slated to open in 2026, but with lingering legal issues, accusations of fraud, and refusals to pay contractors... It's not happening.
