It was another of those long bus rides Friday night for the Lawton High Wolverines. You know the ones, the ones that seem to make them ANGRY. The Enid Plainsmen were the recipients of the wrath Friday as the Wolverines made the 3 hour bus ride to the north and came away with a 42-0 victory to extend their record to 4-and-1 on the season.

Jack Meservy was 7 of 14 passing for 130 yards on the night, tossing a pair of touchdown passes while giving up a pair of interceptions and being taken down for a pair of sacks in 3 quarters of action. Meservy rushed for two scores of 1 and 10 yards, but really was not called upon to carry the offense, as the running game was in top notch form as Darreyl Patterson ran for 177 yards on 16 carries and scored a touch down. Tre Curry also scored on the ground, scoring from 20 yards out at the end of the first quarter. Kalin Sadler led the Wolverine receiving corps, hauling in 4 of Meservy's 7 completions for 115 yards and both of the team's aerial touchdowns.

As it has been all season, defense was the real key for the Wolverines. It was another strong outing for the Lawton defense as the vaunted Plainsmen running game, led by senior Raheem Mitchell, was held to 38 yards on 27 carries for the night by Lawton. Quarterback Frederick Lawrence never seemed to be on the same page with either Mitchell or his leading receiver Squire Logan, and much of that can be directly attributed to pressure that was constantly applied by the Wolverine defensive unit. In five games this season, Lawton has pitched three shutouts, and in a fourth game against Sapulpa, the only points scored were long after the first team defense had taken off their shoulder pads. The only team to score on the Wolverine starting defense has been the MacArther Highlanders, who are 5-and-0 on the season.

The Wolverines will next welcome the Stillwater Pioneers to Cameron Stadium on Friday night. Stillwater fell to Midwest City 36-27 last Friday night and enters the contest 4-and-1 and 0-and-1 in confernce. Lawton, 1-and-0 in conference, hopes to continue the Pioneers losing conference ways. You can catch all the action starting with the Wolverine pregame show at 6:45 Friday night on Z94 and Z94.com.
