The Putnam City Patriots made the hour and a half trip to Lawton, OK Friday night and they definitely got a few things right: their bus driver didn't get lost, they won the opening coin toss and recovered an onside kick to start the second half. Other than that, it was all Lawton High Wolverines Friday night at Ron Stephens Stadium.

After the Patriots failed to convert their first possession, Jack Meservy let the Wolverines on a 58 yard drive, calling his own number on 3rd and goal from the one and Lawton High took a 7-0 lead and would never look back on their way to a 55-0 shellacking of the visiting Patriots.

Darreyl Patterson ran for 137 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, 111 of those yards in the first half as the Wolverines climbed to 3-and-1 on the season. Patterson opened the second half with a 26 yard run and then retired to the sideline for the rest of the game. Patterson broke runs of 24 and 38 yards (his touchdown run) in the first half to go with the 26 yarder in the second half. Tre Curry took over the running duties and didn't let up a bit, rushing for 150 yards on 7 carries, including touchdown runs of 50 and 76 yards. LHS also got backfield help from Dequan Weaver (57 yards on 10 carries) and Dominic Neal (36 yards and a touchdown on 5 carries). Jayquan Lincoln took a reverse in for a touchdown from 16 yards on his only carry of the night.

Passing wise, Meservy was 10 of 15 on the night for 152 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked twice on the evening. He did a good job distributing the rock, hitting 6 different reveivers on the night. Marcheenan Hair was the leading receiver on the evening, hauling in 3 receptions for 85 yards and the only Wolverine touchdown through the air. Tristian Gooden had a pair of receptions for 25 yards, while Bryce Birt pulled in not only a pair a receptions for 15 yards from Meservy, but also a pair of interceptions from Putnam City West quarterback Trey Gooch. Patterson, Kalin Sadler and Tre Curry each had a reception a piece.

Meservy was also done for the evening after the first drive in the second half and his replacement, Zack Hannah didn't attempt a pass while rushing for 12 yards. Caitlyn Cox was 7 of 8 conversions on the night. After her first true miss of the season, she came back looking for redemption on her next attempt, driving the kick out of the field, over the parking lot and onto the street beyond.

On the other side of the ball, Putnam City's offense could just not find traction. Gooch was just 11 of 19 for 63 yards on the night, being sacked 5 times (including 3 times by Wolverine defensive end Chris Smotherman) and throwing 3 interceptions (2 by Birt and and the third by Chris Bishop). Jordan Ealy carried the ball 27 times for 62 yards on the night and the Patriots receiving corps was led by tight-end James Walker who collected three passes for 51 yards.

Next up on the Lawton High Wolverine's schedule are the Enid Plainsmen. The Wolverines hit the road and head to Enid Friday night. You can catch all the action, starting with the Wolverine pregame show with Glenn Brennan and I, kicking it all off at 6:30 on Z94 and Z94.com.
