Like a scene out of a b-horror or sci-fi creature feature the Sooner State is being overrun by eight-legged freaks. The annual Oklahoma Brown Tarantula mating season is officially underway and they're everywhere.

THE SOONER STATE HAS BEEN INVADED BY EIGHT-LEGGED FREAKS

Remain calm, all is well, there's no need to panic. While they may look scary, really scary, the Oklahoma Brown Tarantula isn't dangerous. They're far more scared of you than you are of them so keep that in mind.

Their scary appearance is one of their best defenses, well that and those fangs. They rarely bite humans unless frightened or provoked. Their venom isn't considered harmful to humans, although a bite is painful.

Every year from August through October during mating season the Oklahoma Brown Tarantula can be found all across the Sooner State. Some places like S.W. Oklahoma have large numbers of these scary hairy guys.
