OKC Thunder Fans Face Shockingly High Ticket Prices For NBA Finals
Oklahoma is fired up! The OKC Thunder has continued to dominate on the court and won its way back to its second appearance in the NBA Finals.
I haven't been to a Thunder game since their first playoff berth against the Lakers in 2010. I remember it being extremely loud but really exciting.
Since they're returning to The Finals starting next Thursday, I figured I might treat the nephews to what will be a memorable game full of fun and foam fingers. But when I looked at ticket prices online, I quickly realized that's not going to happen.
It would be cheaper to build a new entertainment theater room in my own home than to take three of us to a Thunder Finals game. All of a sudden, the 82" OLED TVs don't seem so expensive.
Of course, even though Ticketmaster has been in the news for the last thirty years over their predatory ticket scalping practices, it seems all they have are resale tickets available. (Tickets that have been purchased, marked up, and are being resold legally)
The cheapest, nosebleed, upper-level seat in the Paycom Arena is listed (currently) at +/-$1000 each plus Ticketmaster's applicable and infamous fees. The website lists a ton of cheaper tickets available, but when you click to purchase them, they come up as "unavailable."
Ticketmaster will probably hold those until next week and double the price for the next guy.
Of course, the $12,000 tickets are available and come right up for instant purchase if you're so inclined. The rest of us may opt to make the most of it at home.
What could you get for the price of one $12,000 OKC Thunder ticket?
For the best viewing pleasure in an immersive home theater experience, you could pick up this 100" Samsung QLED TV from Sam's Club for $5500. Add in a sweet surround sound system for a few hundred more, or splurge by having a local sound shop install a custom acoustic system in your new theater room.
The furniture is where it's all at. If you're not comfy, you won't enjoy being in there. If it were me, on such short notice, I'd probably head over to HomeZone for some theater seating.
They don't advertise with us, and I'm not paid to say "HomeZone" or anything, but it's cheap furniture that is typically available in a matter of days vs weeks with other furniture outlets. Plus, they don't technically need to last longer than The Finals in this scenario, which is good because that stuff probably won't.
With $6k in audio/visual equipment and a few hundred in furniture, you would have a big chunk of change leftover to feed whoever you chose to invite over for the games. Since the humble and worthless American classic chicken wing is now worth its weight in gold, I would impress with a variety of those and all the fixins, at least on night one.
If you are lucky enough to be attending an OKC Thunder finals game next week, that's awesome for you. Have a blast! Thunder Up Oklahoma!
