So you're looking to move on after the Army, but your inner kid still loves firing the heavy stuff... Mountain life might be the career path for you.

Too many of our young military members exit Field Artillery with low expectations for their next chapter in life, but the training has been far more valuable than most assume.

Across this nation, in mainly Winter states, field artillery pro's keep living the dream, managing mountains above the kind of places where an avalanche would spell disaster. Ski resorts, highway systems, small towns scattered through picturesque valleys, etc...

As a bonus, most of these positions available are state and federal jobs, so while the pay may lack the luster of excitability, the benefits and retirement options are solidified to entice you to keep on keeping on.

Look around the web, these jobs are available from California to the Northern East Coast. Add in your honorable background, you're probably a shoo-in.

So if you're thinking about heading out, look to snowy pastures.

The Frozen Wichita Mountains

When Southwest Oklahoma gets a rare blizzard with serious snowfall, the mountains take on a fresh and stunning look. It's something we all get to experience thanks to the video and camera work of a few awesome locals with a stellar YouTube channel, The Pemberton Boys. They flew their drones and explored the mountains across SWOK while the views were grand, putting it online for everyone to enjoy.

The Wonders of Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle

Often called the Grand Canyon of Texas, it's easy to feel small when surrounded by the towering land. Palo Duro offers stellar hiking and biking, camping, and even cabins to plan more of a family or lovers getaway. Explore it on foot, on wheels, on horses, etc... Cap off the day with an authentic taqueria meal in Amarillo, if you can stand the smell. They don't call it "Cow Town" for nothing...
