If the notion of a hurricane sweeping down the plains and through Oklahoma seems a little odd, you're not alone. It's a headline that tends to grab attention, but it's a curious once-in-a-while weather event that is happening.

Will it be the type of hurricane we're used to seeing come across the Atlantic? No, but it will be a wild weather event that is sure to be unpredictable. It's all about the pressure.

When cold fronts sweep through, the low pressure and dry air pull in warm and moist high pressure up and out of the Gulf of America. When they collide, severe weather happens.

This is the cycle we're so used to, but nearing the end of this week, the cold front sweeping in is so low pressure, it'll measure out like a Category 1 or low-Catagory 2 hurricane as it makes it's way through the plains.

Severe weather risks.

As with any springtime cold front, there is a risk of some wild weather--big rain, hail, tornadoes, etc...--but as the forecast changed each day over the weekend, it might leave Oklahoma alone as far as the really bad stuff goes, though you can't count it out entirely just yet.

If Oklahoma doesn't get harsh weather, meteorologists are suggesting it will affect those in the Eastern portions of the state. As it develops, it might take a turn and produce horrible weather everywhere but Oklahoma.

The wind.

As it is a normal thing for Oklahoma, hurricane-force winds are going to be the biggest issue experts are predicting by the end of the week. With a historically powerful low is going to come some of the strongest winds the Sooner State has seen in a long time, to the point the entire state will be a veritable powder keg for wildfire.

As usual, as the event nears over the coming days, we'll all have a more accurate outlook on what is most likely to occur.
