Oklahoma Has Some Big Rock Shows Coming Up

While you'd expect way more concerts of the two types of Oklahoma music... Country and Western... There's also a pretty huge rock and metal scene in the Sooner State. And the next couple of months, as summer winds down into what looks to be a hot fall, we've got some pretty epic shows swinging through.

There are a lot of concerts headed our way between now and the end of the year, so I'm not going to try to list every band playing in every bar, casino, and theater in the state. But these are the ones that are catching attention.

Let's break them up by genre because, let's be honest, the guy who wants to see Slayer probably isn't looking for the same concert as the dolls who want to see Twisted Sister.

CLASSIC ROCK AND HARD ROCK

Let's start with the stuff that should be familiar to anybody who spent a considerable portion of their youth with a rock radio station turned up too loud.

Twisted Sister is coming to Durant on September 12, but it's a weird one. Dee Snider is no longer with the band. He retired earlier this year with health issues, so Sebastian Bach is filling in the vocals on this tour... Gene Simmons is also touring with them. The show is at the Choctaw Grand Theater.

W.A.S.P. and KK's Priest at the Tulsa Theater on September 17.

Rival Sons will be at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa on November 10.

METAL

There are quite a few metal shows coming up.

Wage War hits the Diamond Ballroom in OKC on November 3 with We Came As Romans, Cane Hill and Varials.

Underoath hits The Criterion on November 6.

Whitechapel is slated for the Diamond on December 12.

Tulsa is getting some action with Born of Osiris at The Shrine on September 19.

ALTERNATIVE, PUNK AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

Toadies are coming to Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa on September 24 with Local H and Olive Vox.

AFI is headed to Cain's on October 25 with Choir Boy.

ROCKLAHOMA IS ITS OWN CATEGORY

Rocklahoma returns to Pryor over Labor Day weekend, September 4 through 6, for its 20th anniversary.

Of all the Rocklahoma's we've had up til now, this one is stacked.

Godsmack on Friday, Papa Roach on Saturday, but the real headline...

Slayer on Sunday - It's the 40th anniversary of "Reign in Blood." Epic.

Also at Rocklahoma: STP, Cypress Hill, Black Label, Hollywood Undead, Dropkick Murphys, Pretty Reckless, Pennywise, Black Veil Brides, Wolfmother, Jet, Buckcherry, Living Colour, Ugly Kid Joe, Suicidal Tendencies and more.

This is nowhere close to a complete list. There are plenty of smaller shows coming to OKC, Tulsa and other towns over the next few months that could easily make your personal list. I doubt anyone could find them all.

Oklahoma has a surprisingly busy rock calendar once summer starts winding down.
