Brace Yourselves Oklahoma, Arctic Blast Inbound
So the big salacious headline hanging over Oklahoma last week was the chance for a crazy snow event over Thanksgiving - but like most week-out predictions, it proved to be wrong - sort of.
While there is the slightest chance there could be a smidge of winter weather over the next few days, that's not the new weather headline. It's all about the cold.
It never stops to amaze me how vastly the forecast changes across the Sooner State. Just two weeks ago, Oklahoma was six weeks from the possibility of our first hard freeze. Last week it was a blizzard for Thanksgiving, and here we are plunging deep into freezing temperatures over the next few days.
This will likely be the entire state.
Now Monday has already been a cold one so far. Not necessarily the temperature in our part of the state (SWOK) but the wind chill was in the low-20s thanks to the northerly wind.
On Tuesday, the first round of arctic air will sweep into most of the state, and by the time Friday rolls around, we will all have experienced the first truly hard freeze of the season.
If you're worried about Thanksgiving Thursday, here's the good news. It's going to be seasonally chilly, but otherwise a really nice day.
The rest of the weekend is also shaping up to be nice, but as it's seven days out, the forecast can change at literally any moment.
It's always a bummer when weather shenanigans happen right before a big travel holiday, but these are the cards we've been dealt. A little cold is nothing in comparison to Oklahoma Thanksgiving's past - we'll take windy cold over freezing rain and slushy snow any day of the year.
