Oklahoma’s Spring: Weather Whiplash Or Just Another Day?
In true Oklahoma fashion, while most of the state had a very stormy spring last night, it's fall weather today and winter weather tomorrow. Saturday morning will get off to a very chilly start with wind chills in the 30s.
If you're new to Oklahoma, this totally tracks as normal.
Sooner State weather has always been unpredictable. Just weeks ago we had a spring blizzard, which is really late for Oklahoma, but within the acceptable norm.
We've also had extremely hot 99° days in February. OKC set a new record high and low on the same day, a temperature swing of 87° to just 17° in the course of a few hours. Nowata (North of Tulsa) set an impressive record back in 2011 when it swung 110° from the all-time Oklahoma low of -31° to 79° in seven days.
We've had shorts & tees Christmas barbeques and had to toss on the hoodies to go fishing on at least one very chilly 49° early August morning before.
The weather in Oklahoma is somewhat polar in the bi sense of the phrase.
Saturday is going to be no different, wind chills in the 30s to start a random May 3rd. If you're up and out the door early, it'll be a morning you'll remember.
Of course, like all spring cold fronts, this too shall pass, and we'll be back to normal, dodging hail and tornadoes by mid-May, probably.
Of course, we'll have to make it through another week of rainy weather first, but the severe wind/hail/tornado predictions are somewhat low as of right now.
