Well, it looks like we're finally going to see some warmer temperatures in Lawton, Fort Sill over the next couple of days. It's been over a week that we've been at below freezing and even negative temperatures, so come on warmer weather. It won't get too warm, but compared to where we've been it'll feel tropical. We'll be seeing temperatures in the high 30's tomorrow and up into the mid 40's throughout the weekend. Things should start melting off and thawing out by Monday, if not early next week sometime.

It's been a crazy couple of days with record low temperatures and snowfall. The City of Lawton has done an amazing job of keeping the roads clear and doing what they can to help keep us safe and improve road conditions. Sure there are places in town that are near impassable, especially neighborhoods and side roads, but over all the city and road crews did a great job plowing and sanding all the main streets. Wanted to let them know how much we appreciate their efforts, too often all they hear is complaints.

A BIG THANK YOU is also in order for the Lawton Police Department, Fire Department, Sheriff's Department, lineman and power company employees, all the EMTS and first responders, tow truck drivers and food delivery people. We couldn't have made it through the past couple of days without you and can't thank you enough for all you've done and continue to do for us. Hopefully you get a break and some time off soon.

While things aren't exactly perfect, it has improved. Road conditions are still hazardous, but much better than they have been. Most City of Lawton offices/properties are open today and will resume regular hours of operation. Below is the official press release from the city that outlines the plan moving forward.

All City of Lawton sites will resume normal operations and hours 2/18/21. The public is reminded of stipulations concerning the City's partial reopening due to COVID: https://www.lawtonok.gov/news/partial-reopening-city-lawton.

Crews are still currently clearing roads; conditions are improving and expected to continue to improve in days to come. Citizens, however, are still urged to avoid travel if possible.
