Every year, the Oklahoma State Fair tries to outdo itself in the category of “Did we really need to fry that?” And just when you think we’ve hit peak ridiculousness, along comes 2025 with a strong contender:

Deep Fried Ranch Dressing.

That is the fair food that is currently sweeping the nation, and it's only a matter of weeks before it's announced for the OK State Fair.

Let’s be clear, this isn’t ranch-flavored something. This is actual ranch dressing, frozen into little discs, battered up like a corn dog, and dropped into hot oil until it’s a golden-brown mystery of science and poor decision-making.

One bite and you’re met with a crispy shell and a molten core of tangy, creamy ranch.

It shouldn’t work. But ranch-lovers say it does. Somehow.

This is the same fair that gave us bacon-wrapped Oreos, pickle lemonade, and deep-fried Doritos crusted pickles.

Remember those? They walked so Deep Fried Ranch Dressing could run straight into a cardiologist’s office. And Oklahoma will probably love it.

People will probably drive in from out of state just to try it, lines will form before noon, and forget about sharing.

Each order I've seen at other fairs comes with three discs, which is precisely two too few for the average ranch addict.

Vendors are already talking about branching into ranch-stuffed churros and frozen ranch pops next year.

Oklahoma, are we okay?

Still, there’s something weirdly attractive about it. The fair has never been about moderation. It’s about eating something you shouldn’t while surrounded by livestock, blinking lights, and someone’s cousin who just won a goldfish.

Deep Fried Ranch Dressing may not be good for you, but it’s probably good for the spirit if only because it reminds us that food can still surprise us in the most unholy ways.

Just bring a napkin. Or five. You're gonna need 'em.
