Econoline Crush Guitarist David 'Ziggy' Sigmund Has Died

There's sad news to report as longtime Econoline Crush guitarist David "Ziggy" Sigmund has died. The cause of death was not given, but Ziggy's longtime bandmate, singer Trevor Hurst, delivered the news to the band's fans on social media.

"David 'Ziggy' Sigmund, my friend, partner, my brother in arms has crossed over. His sudden passing has taken all of us by surprise," wrote Hurst. "He was a brilliant musician, creative genius, entertaining conversationalist and the best hang. My life is forever changed. I want to thank everyone for the kind messages of support during this difficult time."

Sigmund joined Econoline Crush in 1997, just as the band was about to enjoy some breakout success. The Vancouver-based band went platinum in their native Canada with their 1997 album The Devil You Know, which spawned the songs "Home," "Sparkle and Shine," "Surefire (Never Enough)" and their biggest hit "All That You Are (X3)," which also enjoyed U.S. Mainstream Rock Radio airplay.

He also recorded on their 2001 album Brand New History, that yielded the singles "You Don't Know What It's Like" and "Make It Right."

Ziggy would exit the band in 2002, but eventually returned in 2010 and remained with the group until his death. In addition to Econoline Crush, the musician spent time recording with Slow, Godfathers of Love and The Scramblers. Revisit some of his work below.
