Fall Fishing Weather is Headed to Oklahoma
Ask absolutely any angler, fall is the best season for fishing all year round. And with the current forecast, the cooler temperatures will finally arrive down in Southwest Oklahoma by as early as next week - meaning the best-producing lakes in the state might hop back on the bite.
It hasn't been that brutal of a summer. July was seasonably cool and awesome compared to years past, but August has been a record-breaker down this way.
That was on Monday. Granted, the air temperature wasn't 122° - but the heat index was. I talked to my dad up in Northern Oklahoma minutes after sending him this picture, his local temp was 84°... I'm not sure how that's even possible given the relatively thin 200 miles we're apart.
After hearing him talk about how good the fishing has been during this period of cooler fall-like weather up North, I feel like I felt that first fall chill in the air this morning walking out of the house.
It's likely false fall - but we'll take it.
I know what you're thinking. It can't have felt like fall this morning, we're in a heat advisory for today, and the forecast for tomorrow is 107°... but the far end of the forecast shows the overnight lows in the 60s again - granted, meteorologists are batting .150 so far this summer, but the relief is something to look forward to.
Fishing has also been a huge challenge in the last few weeks, likely due to the hot weather. When it gets so hot, the fish get lazy and seek relief in the deep.
Before you know it, the bass will be biting on anything that remotely looks like a crawfish. Tubes, jigs, and those little hardbaits that bounce off rocks as you reel.
Between the forecast and the Farmer's Almanac September prediction, Oklahoma might actually get a fall between summer and winter this year.
