Fidelity Communications Will Update Westside On Thursday
If you live out in West Lawton (shout out Westsiiiide) you may have received or ignored a call from Fidelity Communications concerning a service update later this week. On Thursday, between the hours of midnight and 6 AM, they'll be performing updates and upgrades to the service area out that way. Before you ask, I'm not sure if you'll be included or not.
Hopefully, everything goes as planned for whatever Fidelity has in store for this side of town. My home gigabit internet has been pretty stable at Casa de El Kelso for the last few months, averaging a 950mb speed hardwired, and a reasonable 820mb speed to most of my compatible wifi devices. Some of the older stuff gets capped around 380, but that's still the fastest web I've ever had.
If you wake up on Thursday and discover your internet sucks or is non-existent, you're encouraged to call Fidelity immediately to ensure your service is resurrected as fast as possible.
If you don't have Fidelity, what do you have?
Everyone knows that when it comes to services and goods, competition is key to getting the best bang for your buck. I've learned that if you live close enough to the AT&T hubs, their DSL can be pretty rock-steady... but unless you're within a certain distance of 17th and Gore or the hub site in far Northwest Lawton, odds are you won't have any luck with that.
There was a rumor years ago about Hilliary Communications planning to build into Lawton, but as Fidelity/Sparklight owns the Lawton contract, so long as they manage the terms of exclusivity, there's no expectation to allow another company directly into town.
On the plus side, Starlink is set to arrive in Lawton sometime in the next few months. At least the website still says they are "targetting coverage to begin in late 2021" here in Lawton. It's not as fast as Fidelity, but based on reviews of the product so far from other regions, and the constant complaining on pages like the Grapevine, it might end up the better service at a cheaper rate. Time will tell.
