People Thought This Frontier City Ride Was Gone Forever. It’s Still There
Like every other kid in Oklahoma, I once had a favorite attraction at Oklahoma's own Frontier City.
I would assume that most people who voiced an opinion about it over the years would likely talk up the legendary Silver Bullet. That was our oldest sister's favorite ride.
The Never-Ending Excitement
One trip when I was young, it was rolling down to closing time, and the lines had disappeared. So when the Silver Bullet ride ended for our turn, and nobody else was waiting to get on, the teenager running the show in that moment just let us ride it over and over for what had to be ten times in a row. And as amazing of a memory as that is, the Silver Bullet isn't at the top of the list.
Our middle sister loved the pirate ship thing, but she always insisted on sitting in the middle. Granted, even I didn't like being out on the wings. It always got so vertical, you can't help but feel like you're going to fall out and die.
Mom loved the water ride. Not the log luge or whatever it's called, but the one where you sat in a six-person boat thing, all facing each other, and got tossed around the rapids. It was the 90s, and wet jean shorts may be the most diabolical fashion trend of any generation. Hard pass.
The Ride That Always Had A Line
My favorite ride - and I have to say was because it's long gone these days - was the Nightmare Mine roller coaster.
For one, it rolled on a track completely in the dark, which could be as scary for kids as it was fun... but it was also air-conditioned. A welcome escape from the 110° Super El Niño weather in 1997.
Doom-scrolling TikTok just trying to waste away enough time to go to bed, I found out that Frontier City retired the Nightmare Mine coaster. Which was shocking because it was the best ride in the park.
Gone, But Not Really
Turns out, it's still there... They just took it apart and put it into storage. Probably the fault of a high air conditioning bill.
