How Close Are They To Creating The Lightsaber?

Real quick spoiler, we're not close at all... but scientists in those respective fields are seriously trying to attain this goal. Between the lore of kyber crystals and the force, there are people out there trying to recreate the sci-fi worlds most epic civilized weapon. Through the use of lasers, plasma, and even anti-matter, one of these days they'll crack it allowing us to cut our overpriced cheese with a little cheese-saber.

If you're thinking "It's already been done..." I know. There was a video of a dude who made a lightsaber looking thing that used flammable liquid to create the 'blade,' but it was just another step into the evolution of this craziness.
